Hosted by the Boating Industry Association (BIA) and the Marina Industries Association (MIA), the Marine 17 International Conference and Trade Show has opened at the International Convention Centre in Sydney with a flurry of activity ahead of the 50th Sydney International Boat Show opening August 3-7 also in Darling Harbour.
The official biennial Marine Conference opening was hosted by Tim Stackpool, with BIA CEO Howard Glenn and MIA President Andrew Chapman on hand to welcome members to the business-to-business and industry event. Mr Chapman was excited about the sell-out event and what was on offer for the growing marine industry.
"We have had a great first day, with interesting speakers covering some interesting topics. The most exciting part is the exhibition space, which has grown three times as large as previous years."
At last report, the total participation numbers in Marine 17 were expected to exceed 600 with the more than 100 trade exhibitors and 60 conference sessions attracting much interest.
Highlights include presentations and discussions around the share economy and the implications for the recreational boating industry including marinas.
A number of presentations by local and international speakers on marketing to the online consumer are also bound to provide insights for businesses.
A comprehensive program has been planned over the three days, with an impressive line-up of experts in the marine and marina industries inspiring productive discussions about key issues.
The focus is largely on changing trends in the industry and how to connect recreational boaters with essential services. It’s all about meeting the challenges and grabbing the opportunities concerning the marine industry in order to grow boating for the future.
