The forum, 'Marina Need and Understanding the Marina Development Approval Process', was held at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, hosted by the Department of State Development, Trade and Innovation.
BIA of Queensland general manager Barry Hibberd welcomed the initiative, describing it as "a genuine effort to identify the issues and establish an action agenda".
"Attendees made wide-ranging comments and observations and these have been documented by State Development into an action list with a timeline," Hibberd said.
Hibbard said the Queensland Marina Association had sounded the alarm on the shortage of marina berths in Queensland and the economic threat it represented to regional areas.
The BIAQ told the state government that the shortage of berths would discourage the growth of the Queensland recreational boating industry and deter the lucrative superyacht industry.
Hibberd said issues raised at the forum included the need to reach the maximum capacities of existing infrastructure before looking for new sites.
"However, there is a proposal to identify future sites well before the development stage," he said.
