Since its 1989 launch into the US recreational market, Mariah has quickly developed a reputation for building high quality craft. It was this fact that attracted NYS's Tony Trimachi to the marque.
The Mariah range encompasses more than 20 models made up of runabouts, bowriders, deckboats, cuddy cabins and the range-topping mid-cabin cruisers from 18-30ft. The 182 Shabah is an entry-level boat, one of seven models in the bowrider range. Each model is available in standard format or in the up-spec Z models featuring an extended inventory and sporty interiors.
The 182 Shabah is designed as a general purpose social and family platform, more than capable of towing a skier. It is fitted as standard with a 4.3lt MerCruiser sterndive, which takes it to speeds of around 80kmh.
The 182 Shabah can seat up to nine with two forward helm seats and padded bench seating at the rear.
A windscreen wraps around the cockpit and opens at the centre to access the forward bow area. The dash is fitted with flush-mounted gauges set on a woodgrain panel and is complemented by a sports-style steering wheel. The passenger side dash has an enclosed glove compartment and additional storage on top of the dash. Storage compartments are fitted down either side of the cockpit along with stainless handrails.
At the transom, the engine compartment provides additional storage and has a full length cover that doubles as a sunpad. A full width swim platform, with stainless grabrail, is fitted at the transom.
According to Trimachi, part of the company's success can be attributed to its commitment to R&D in hull design and manufacture. Indeed, the company's promotional material outlines in great details the components of each hull. The range is built on a new skeletal system that integrates the floor, stringer and hull into one 'welded' piece, which is then foam filled. It is designed to provide additional strength, flotation, safety and a quiet ride without an increase in hull weight, it says.
In addition, every hull receives a barrier coating of vinylester and layers of hand-laid double and triple-bias fibreglass fabric. The application is overlapped at the keel and chine to ensure strength and durability.
The 182 Shabah offers the versatility of a performance runabout for daytripping, skiing or entertaining, wrapped in a well-finished luxury package.
