Mako madness

Seven jump shots of 370kg mako!
Just about everyone loves a high-flying mako shark. But the Sydney Game Fishing Club’s annual Monster Mako tournament on the weekend of August 4-5 exceeded expectations.
Some 160 mainly makos were tagged over two day. The biggest captured mako tugged the scales down to just over 190kg.
Game boat Ambition won the Tag and Release section with two whalers, three blue sharks and seven makos on the Saturday, then another three makos on the Sunday.
Ambition ended up just one fish ahead of club competitor Little Audrey. So the sharks were well and truly on the chew.
Meantime, American angler Alex Beck hooked an estimated three-metre long, 370kg  mako on a fly during last month’s Flying Mako catch and release tournament out of San Diego.
Beck was fishing with Captain Mark Martin, the video was shot by Keith Langford, and is posted courtesy of www.sandiegosaltwaterflyfishing.com.
