The vacuum-bagged epoxy-carbon hulls of the first Blue Coast 95 luxury cruising catamaran have been completed at the H2X shipyard in La Ciotat and the yacht should be handed over to her new owner in July next year.
Designed by renowned French designer Jean-Jacques Coste, the plans and designer drawings for the 95ft (28m) catamaran were displayed in Cannes in May, which was enough for one European businessman to pull out his cheque book and order one there and then.
Coste Design and Partners are promising a new level of space and luxury in the yacht. A huge flybridge, with an inbuilt jacuzzi, dominates the upper deck and also contains a dining area, a tanning pad, the bar and the helm station.
One deck below a hydraulic platform lowers for water sports and to launch the tender. There is a large covered aft lounge with a second bar.
Unlike most big catamarans not all the sleeping area is in the hulls. The owner's cabin is forward of the saloon but the ensuite head is in the starboard hull. The three guest cabins are located in the hulls, as in the galley, crew quarters and crew mess.
The cat has been designed for private use rather than the charter market and the sail plan and sail handling are designed to make life aboard relaxing for the owner. The main sail is on a furling boom that has been designed specifically for cats. Coste says the yacht will reach more than 15 knots under sail and will cruise at 13 knots with her two 400hp diesels.
Coste invited the French press in to inspect the hulls when they were completed late last month. Check out Coste Design's website for details on its other projects.
