Boating electronics group Lowrance has teased its all-new trolling motor in a short video hinting that the motor will potentially tie in with the on-board fishfinder.
The short video, released late last week, shows parts of the new trolling motor being stress-tested under highly repetitive procedures designed to highlight any durability issues.
However, the video also shows a trolling motor dropping into the water with what looks like a forward-looking transducer fitted to the shaft above the electric motor’s propellor. Other trolling motors have theor transducers mounted below the electric drive unit.
According to the video, the Lowrance trolling motor has been four years in the making, and has already had more than 5000 hours of real-world testing.
The trolling motor in the video is fitted to a much more rigid support than we’ve seen in other applications, with a much heavier wiring loom running into it. The video also has the unidentified fishfinder – believed to be a high-end HDS Live unit – and what looks like a GPS antenna flush-mounted near the bow.
Full details about the Lowrance trolling motor will be announced on July 12.
Lowrance appears keen to develop a smarter trolling motor in answer to units such as the Minn Kota and MotorGuide, which have both released wireless versions of their trolling motors.
MotorGuide is planning for a big, new product launch about the same time as Lowrance makes the official announcement about its trolling motor.
Rival marine electronics maker Garmin is also believed to be working on a trolling motor.
