Queensland sailing and powered catamaran maker Lightwave Yachts has announced it will soon move into an all-new factory to help it meet growing demand for its products.
The Coomera-based company will move to a new Gold Coast location in Yatala “over coming months”. The new facility will allow the company to house multiple builds – Lightwave will soon add the Lightwave 50 motor catamaran and 52 sailing catamaran to its line-up – and specialised composite industrial projects.
Lightwave said the design release of the new models was “coming soon”.

“We are very happy to be continuing to be based on the Gold Coast and securing our future for manufacturing in Australia at the new facilities,” Lightwave Yachts founding managing director Roger Overell said.

The first stage of the move will commission a 2000-square-metre manufacturing shed in July, with stage two set to include another manufacturing shed and offices.
Lightwave currently builds a single model, the 13.7-metre Lightwave 45 sailing catamaran, featuring a bluewater hull “designed to negotiate long, ocean-going passages with minimal effort and absolute comfort”.
Its 7.3-metre beam allows for a generous bridge deck clearance, with 2.0 metres of headroom in the saloon and 2.05 metres in the hulls.
The Lightwave 45 is also a competent long-distance motor cruiser, offering up to 1300nm of range running one of the two 50hp Yanmar/Volvo Penta saildrive engines.
Lightwave Yachts is the only company in Australia commercially producing cruising catamarans.
