Lighthouse web cam at St Kilda Marina

St Kilda Boat Sales has installed the web cam, located some 60ft above the water, to transmit live images in full colour of actual bay conditions and on-water activity.

The dealership said its web cam provides images to your computer (or compatible phone) via a complex, high-speed and secure ADSL2 wireless network back to its boat sales office and onto a streaming server to the Internet.

St Kilda Boat Sales said the live images give users the ability to clearly view the top-end of Port Phillip Bay, as the camera automatically sweeps on a pre-programmed path.

Supported by easy access to its live Weather Bureau data feed, St Kilda Boat Sales said computer users can now plan their on-water activity easily from a single and reliable data source.

"No longer will mariners have to drive to the water's edge to check-out the conditions before deciding whether or not to go boating," said St Kilda Boat Sales.

"At our web cam homepage (www.stkildaboatsales.com.au/webcam) you will notice our viewing window displays compass headings. This is so mariners can familiarise themselves with the surrounds, to ultimately better understand the wind effect on water conditions, so as to increase on-water safety for all.
