Krogen 48 North Sea gets facelift

Kadey-Krogen Yachts, the US-based company that produces big, comfortable, live-aboard trawlers for the American market, has sold 48 of its North Sea 48 boats since the design was introduced in 1996, so it obviously knows what its customers want.

At the coming Miami International Boat Show, it will display the result of years of customer feedback with a face-lifted North Sea 48 which it claims will be even more home-like than its predecessors.

"Owner feedback was the driving force for the changes made to the Krogen 48," vice president Larry Polster says, "All the changes will enhance the liveability of the boat." He says the most obvious change is the enlarged galley with now features a four-burner stove, a full-sized refrigerator, a trash compactor and a dishwasher. The appliances will be stainless steel.

Polster says the flybridge has also been revamped to give extra entertaining space with an L-shaped settee and two helm chairs. A small outdoor kitchen on the flybridge will enable American owners to roast weenies while they relax and enjoy the view.

"Our owners are the ones out there living the lifestyle, so we trust that the feedback they provide will make our boats better for the next generation of Krogen owners," Polster says. "Though some of the changes are subtle, the new North Sea 48 is a truly reinvented classic."

The first of the new boats has been sold to a couple from the US east coast who have owned four previous Kadey-Krogen trawlers.
