The new cats were designed by Australian naval architect Chris Tucker from Chris Tucker Marine Design and are constructed to a 2C survey standard with capacity to carry eight people, and in DNV stamped plate aluminium. The boats are foam filled for level flotation and less noise underway.
Koya said the first of the Ocean Cat series now available is the 6.85 Cat (7.7m), to be followed by an 8.2 (9m) vessel which will be launched at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show next month.
Tucker has worked alongside Koya's director, Jerry Chen, and the company's national manager, Carlo Marchese, to produce a boat which they expect will draw strong interest from anglers, particularly with a deck format that provides loads of fishing room and a stable platform at rest.
Koya said the Ocean Cats series feature a revolutionary new hull and transom design which gives the skipper more agility, better cornering with tighter turns, along with a smoother and a dryer ride. The stylish hull design is said to give better efficiency and fuel economy by reducing hull friction.
The current 6.85 has hydraulic steering and is powered by twin 150hp Honda four-stroke motors, which Koya said will provide heaps of power while offering good fuel efficiency for a boat of this size. The boatbuilder added the 8.2 will be available in twin-outboard and sterndrive options.
The 6.85 deck layout comes in two options with a capacity to carry eight people. Koya said the central work station is optional but provides a spot to prepare rigs, wash hands, as well as keeping bait, drinks and food close to the action. Included in the deck design are two livebait tanks, two underfloor killtanks, a deckwash and heaps of storage space, which Koya said makes this boat a true bluewater vessel.
Recommended power for the 6.85 are twin 150hp Honda outboards, reported to provide a top speed of 38-plus knots.
Koya said the hull comes with a structural two-year warranty, and that the 6.85 is the perfect entry-level vessel.
