As part of the Royal Australian Navy’s International Fleet Review celebrations the Australian National Maritime Museum’s magnificent replica of Captain Cook’s ship HM Bark Endeavour will be at the forefront of a spectacular tall ship fleet entry into Sydney Harbour on October 3.
To be a part of this unforgettable experience, the Australian National Maritime Museum is offering a once-in-a-lifetime 10 day voyage onboard HMB Endeavour from September 24 to October 3. Joining Endeavour during the voyage will be more than 20 other Australian and International tall ships who will be sailing from Hobart and New Zealand to Sydney.
"Only 10 voyage crew berths remain onboard HMB Endeavour for the International Fleet Review voyage including the spectacular tall ship fleet entry into Sydney Harbour," says Vicki Northey, ANMM Executive Project Manager.
Anyone wishing to join the ship, for what has been described as the sailing experience of a lifetime, can apply online now for a berth.
"We’re very excited that Endeavour will be part of the Navy’s centenary celebrations and to play a part in commemorating the arrival of the first Australian naval fleet into Sydney 100 years ago," she added.
Being a voyage crew member on Endeavour is a great way to ‘learn the ropes’ – that is, learn first-hand how seafarers sailed and navigated tall ships in the 18th century. Voyage crew members sleep in hammocks, stand watch, handle rigging, furl sails, clear and steer the ship. Voyage crew member prices are $3800.
For those who can’t spare 10 days, the Museum is also offering day sails on HMB Endeavour throughout the International Fleet Review from October 4-11.
When not sailing the harbour, this finely crafted wooden vessel will be open for public inspection, displaying the living and working conditions on one of history’s great voyages of discovery -- Cook’s circumnavigation of the globe in 1768-71.
