Marine electronics group Garmin has added JL Audio to its portfolio of products in a deal that will see music and entertainment systems fully integrate with boat chartplotters.
The deal, which will add the privately owned JL Audio business to Garmin’s business from the end of this year, was announced overnight. The terms of the deal have not been revealed.
“JL Audio’s extensive audio experience will create new opportunities to provide premium audio features across a broad range of our markets and products,” Garmin Chief Executive Cliff Pemble said in a brief statement announcing the purchase.
“The JL Audio brand is known around the world for offering a premium audio experience which is made possible by their talented and dedicated associates.
“We look forward to welcoming the JL Audio team into the Garmin family,” he said.
JL Audio’s most recent product release was an app for smartphones that allows users to wirelessly connect with and control its range of marine head units.
It has also recently introduced compact amplifiers hardened for the marine environment, as well as a range of new speakers that allow users to customise older installations of JL Audio gear, and a new generation of subwoofers and loudspeakers optimised for larger yachts.
It is also the supplier for the audio system fitted to the new Sea-Doo Switch pontoon boat due on sale in Australia later this year.
