Jet skis of the 2023 Sydney International Boat Show

Yamaha Australia finally has a showroom solution for jet ski-based fishing – the JetFish

Anglers and fishing enthusiasts have another jet ski to consider in Australia – in addition to the trio of Sea-Doo Fish models.

The Yamaha FX HO JetFish edition was unveiled this week at the 2023 Sydney International Boat Show.

It utilises the genuine Yamaha accessories released for this model in the US two years ago but is now sold as a package deal via selected WaveRunner showrooms in Australia and New Zealand.

It is priced from $27,899 excluding trailer and registration – $3300 more than the $24,599 Yamaha FX HO WaveRunner on which it is based.

This compares with $26,354 for the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Sport and $30,054 for the Sea-Doo Fish Pro Trophy.

The complete Yamaha FX HO JetFish kit includes:

  • Garmin GT24 UHD transducer
  • 45-litre Engel cooler box
  • Fish length measurements on cooler box
  • Four fishing rod holders
  • Yamaha 'RecDeck' rear deck extension
  • Retractable rear boarding ladder
  • Unique JetFish decals

The kit adds 50kg to the weight of the Yamaha FX HO, which means the maximum payload of JetFish-equipped models is reduced from 240kg to 190kg.

Yamaha Australia unveiled the 2023 Yamaha FX HO JetFish at this year’s Sydney Boat Show before rolling the model out to selected Yamaha WaveRunner dealerships in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Sydney Boat Show marks a return for all three major jet ski brands to the annual exhibition, with factory-backed stands within eyesight of each other making it easy for buyers to compare models.

And in a major turnaround, super-sharp jet ski deals have returned for the first time since before the start of the global pandemic three years ago.

Jet ski deals have been non-existent for the past three years amid a spike in demand and severe stock shortages.

But Sea-Doo and Yamaha in particular are over-stocked, with 2024 models due by the end of this year.

Yamaha WaveRunner has the sharpest deal at the show: up to $3000 off combined with a 3.99 per cent finance offer. Normally jet ski companies offer a discount or a low-interest rate deal, but rarely both.

Yamaha is offering $3000 off all supercharged 1.8-litre WaveRunners, $2000 off all non-supercharged 1.8-litre WaveRunners and $1000 off all three-cylinder TR-1 WaveRunners.

There are two exceptions: no deals on the Yamaha SuperJet ‘stand-up’ jet ski, or the newly released JetFish edition of the Yamaha FX HO.

Meantime, Sea-Doo is offering zero per cent finance to approved buyers on the Spark and Spark Trixx (its two most affordable models), after buyers place a 15 per cent deposit.

Other models in the Sea-Doo range have between $500 and $1500 off the RRP.

And all Sea-Doo watercraft at the Sydney Boat Show have an additional $250 off whatever deal they opt into.

Kawasaki Jet Ski doesn’t have any sharp deals due to ongoing supply shortages, however, the Sydney boat show does mark the Australian debut of the new Kawasaki Ultra 160 range.

Two models – the Kawasaki Ultra 160 LX and LX-S – replace the previous Kawasaki Ultra LX which was discontinued in mid-2022.

Prices have risen by between $8500 and $10,000 (in round numbers) compared with the Ultra 160 predecessor as Kawasaki goes after the popular Yamaha FX HO and Sea-Doo GTX 170 market.

While the tried and proven Kawasaki Ultra hull has been unchanged for more than 15 years, the top deck is all new and shares the same technology as the new top deck on the supercharged Ultra sibling introduced two years ago.

The 2023 Sydney International Boat Show is the first time in years all three major brands have been under one roof in a marine expo.

The 2023 Sydney International Boat Show runs from August 3-6.
