Measuring 7.5m overall, with a 2.9m beam, the Sun Odyssey 26 is designed to appeal to cruising couples with liveaboard capabilities below decks and a wide and open cockpit above. Fitted with tiller steering, the set up is designed for leisurely days in the sun with friends and family as crew.
With a mainsail area of 18.5sqm, a standard furling genoa and well-placed winches on each side of the companionway, the Sun Odyssey is also designed to be easily manoeuvred on a social race circuit.
The standard rigging includes anodised aluminium deck-stepped mast and single sweptback spreaders. The modern configuration was adapted from the open class of ocean racing monohulls, the company says.
Available in either a ballasted centreboard or the patented twin keel version, it is designed to visit almost any anchorage thanks to a draft of just 0.7m.
Underdeck there is 1.8m of headroom throughout. The companionway steps serve as an engine cover for the 9hp diesel engine.
To starboard is a built-in galley unit with sink, stove and storage. To port, is a head with optional shower. Towards the stern is a large aft cabin with a double berth, measuring 2m by 1.6m. The main cabin is fitted with a roof hatch to allow light and air throughout and an opening cockpit port. A hanging locker, shelving and underberth storage is provided. Further storage is located under the companionway stairs.
At the centre of the saloon a benchseat surrounds the dinette, leaving free access to the forward bunk. A forward-facing navigation table with storage is located to starboard.
