Rather than rest on its laurels, French yard Jeanneau is hell-bent on invigorating the sailboat market in 2010. Upgrades have been incorporated on the Sun Odyssey 36i, Sun Odyssey 39i, Sun Odyssey 42i, 45 Deck Saloon and 50 Deck Saloon yachts in both go-fast ‘performance’ and standard specifications. New models are headed by the Sun Odyssey 42 Deck Saloon due in early February with new styling and keen pricing from $352,000.
The performance-oriented Marc Lombard hull for the 42DS (pictured) features a swept-back bulb keel and deep blade rudder, with twin wheel steering. The mainsheet traveller is on the coach-house roof, so the cockpit can be kept rope-free when cruising. An optional German sheeting-system has the mainsheet tails leading to aft winches, adjacent to the helm positions.
The 42DS has a popular curved-top coach house, with the aft cabin sides extended to form deep coamings around the cockpit, and a luxurious interior with three cabins and two heads or a more spacious two-cabin, two-head layout with a centre berth in the aft cabin.
Water views, light entry and ventilation were key requirements for the interior and, in addition to the panoramic view afforded by the deck saloon windows, six hull ports supplement the spread of deck hatches and ports.
The dinette is designed around a central table that has wide drop sides to seat a crowd or up to four people on one side. Nearby are an L-shaped galley and a space-saving chart table that can be folded clear when entertaining. Watch this space.
This year’s Jeanneau Rendezvous will be held on Pittwater on Saturday March 27 via the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. The fun day afloat for owners and their crews will be followed by a dinner at RPAYC, with prize-giving and live music. The emphasis is on participation but lots of goodies will be given away.
