INFYNITO, Ferretti Yachts' new design-driven sub-brand, launched

Ferretti hints at a new explorer-style sedan range that will include an almost unbroken line of windows

Italian motor yacht maker Ferretti Yachts has teased what appears to be an all-new line of sedan-styled models that will add to its existing line-up of flybridge cruisers – but with a very big twist.

An image teasing the new “INFYNITO” line shows the boats will be very different to Ferretti’s existing design philosophy – so different that it appears to want to completely break all the current big motor yacht conventions.

The teaser image shows inside the bow of one of the new models, all of which will extend from 20 to 30 metres in length. The name of the image gives us a clue as to what we’re looking at –here, Ferretti describes this space as the "all-season terrace".

We’re only going by what we see here, but it appears that this new model line will feature a lounge space built into the bow and facing what appears to be a deck-level swimming pool.

A roof overhead protects the space from the weather, but includes panes that allow light to flood the space. The sides appear to be semi-enclosed, featuring what appears to be glass bulwarks that go halfway towards filling the space, but leave a gap to allow air to circulate in the space.

According to Ferretti, the new INFYNITO range will be designed “to experience the sea at 360 degrees”, with an unbroken line of windows running “from the extreme stern to the extreme bow”.

“The main innovation concerns, in fact, the construction of a visual continuity between inside and outside (the photo above is definitely evocative),” Ferretti said in a release announcing the new line.

“INFYNITO draws inspiration from explorer vessels and, as such, it is a line of boats designed to travel long distances and welcome its guests in total comfort.

“Another absolute novelty [is] the introduction of FSEA (Ferretti Sustainable Enhanced Architecture) technology, or a package of solutions for navigating in the widest respect for the environment.”

That includes features such as solar panels on the boat’s roof that will be used to recharge a bank of on-board batteries. The batteries, in turn, will allow the boat to run in “hotel mode”, relying on a bank of lithium-ion batteries to power all the onboard functions – without the emissions owners would expect from a traditional diesel-powered genset.

Owners will also be able to choose from other “increasingly green” products when the motor yacht is built, including paints, “sustainable” teak, and recycled leather and fabric.

The new line was developed with the help of Piero Ferrari – yes, his father founded a car brand – with architect Fillipo Salvetti taking care of the exterior design and Ideaeitalia looking after the interior.

No hints were given as to when we’re likely to see the first of the INFYNITO range launching.
