Snapper season has arrived, and a snelled hook will enhance your chances of claiming that trophy fish.
It’s also a good knot for making a fully adjustable two-hook rig.
The front hook can slide up or down the leader to accomodate different bait sizes, whether they be whole fish or squid. This rig can be adapted for Spanish and spotted mackerel in the summer months, with wire leader replacing the mono.

2. Using the loop, start to bind up the hook shank towards the eye.
3. Depending on the diameter of the mono, between six and eight wraps will suffice.
4. Grasping the main part of the leader and the tag end, pull the knot tight.
5. The leader can now be threaded through the hook eye and the knot eased up the shank. Trim the tag and we are done.
6. Double snells make a nice rig for two hooks, but aren’t adjustable.
7. With the top hook running free on the leader, the snell knot can be used to fix it in place, yet make it fully adjustable. The stinger hook can be a treble or a single, depending on the target species.
