Mention the word “tender” and most boat owners would immediately think of a compact inflatable boat that can squeeze onto a swim deck hanging off the back of a motor yacht. But what if it didn't have to be so boring?
For one US Horizon Yacht customer, the idea of what boat would hang off the back of his new bundle of floating pride and joy didn’t have to be just any ordinary tender – instead it’s a 400hp luxury saltwater boat made by US high-end fishing boat specialists Scout.
Pictures posted on the Seven Seas Yacht Sales Facebook page show the Scout 225 LXF being fitted to a lifting platform mounted on the back of what looks like a new Horizon E78 that’s currently being built at Horizon’s Taiwan-based manufacturing plant.
The platform is mounted in front of what would ordinarily be the yacht’s tender garage.
The 2.0 tonne-plus Scout 225 LXF measures in at 7.77 metres long, which would make it significantly overhang the Horizon E78’s 5.7-mere beam.
More importantly, though, the Scout is rated to carry up to 11 passengers. As the Horizon E78 is rated for 12, that means someone will always have to stay behind.
And while the Scout can come equipped with twin Yamaha or Mercury 200hp outboard engines, the Horizon E78 needs a little more help to push it through the water, using what is believed to be twin CAT C32 1600hp engines.
A Scout is an impressive choice of tender. The Scout 225 LFX is branded as a “luxury sports fisher” that includes features such as a transom door, a fibreglass leaning post that includes tackle lockers and a cooler box, and a dual-seat centre console protected under a powder-coated T-top canopy.
Fitted with the twin Mercurys, the Scout 225 LFX will hit 96km/h over the water at wide-open throttle.
