The Horizon FD87 may have been too late to land in Australia before the 2021 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, but that hasn’t stopped a buyer from snapping it up within a week of its arrival.
The limited-edition FD87 Skyline was slated to be the star of Horizon Yacht Australia’s display at the 2021 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May, but transport delays had it sitting on a container ship somewhere off Papua New Guinea on the day of the show’s official opening.
It eventually arrived on the last day of the show, with Horizon Yacht Australia instead planning to showcase it with a series of more discreet events.
However, the official Australian distributor announced last week that the FD87 had sold within a week of it going on display.
Horizon Yacht Australia director Mark Western said the new owner had bought the FD87 – last week officially rebranded as the FD90 – to step down from a crewed cruising yacht to a boat he could drive himself, all without sacrificing much in terms of internal volume.
“That's sort of what the FD Series has been designed around, volume in a smaller length,” Western said.
Western said Horizon Yacht Australia had 10 builds in progress, with nine of those ordered from the luxury yacht maker’s Fast Displacement series of boats.
In terms of Australian boats, Horizon will bring in another FD90 in time for the 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, and also plans to have a smaller FD80 ready to bring in – so long as the container ship transporting them here isn’t delayed.
Western said the distributor also planned to bring in a more classically lined Horizon V68 – the entry-level model in the V-Series enclosed flybridge cruisers – also in time for a 2022 Sanctuary Cove show berth.
Luxury motor yacht sales are still growing in Australia, helped in part by a slow vaccine roll-out that is expected to put the brakes on overseas travel for at least another 12 months.
Horizon’s stand-in star at this year’s Sanctuary Cove show, the Horizon RP100 superyacht, sold on the show’s opening day. Other luxury motor yacht makers including Riviera and Maritimo also announced strong sales of particularly new models revealed at the event.
The Horizon FD87 was due to go on show at this month’s Sydney Festival of Boating. However, with the show cancelled, it will stay in Queensland until its new owner steps aboard.
