Horizon Elan 68

Part of the Elan 70 series of motoryachts, the Elan 68 was born from an owner's request for a vessel built to his own specifications, distributor Brett Flanagan says.

In fact, the Elan series can be built to almost any size, which is part of the reason for its success in Australia, he says.

With an overall length of 20.7m and a broad 5.72m beam, the flybridge motoryacht is designed for long range boating, with 5700lt of fuel and 1200lt of freshwater.

It is powered by twin 800hp Caterpillar diesel engines, taking the Elan 68 to cruise speeds of between 16-20kt, according to Flanagan.

A number of other engine options, including twin 1350 Caterpillar diesels are available.

The fibreglass hull features a Vee-shaped keel with longitudinal stringers with foam-cored reinforcement. The stringers are bonded to the hull, encapsulated in several layers of glass cloth and resin, the company says.

At the transom is a fibreglass swim platform featuring curved steps to the deck. A slide-in swim ladder is also fitted.

The extensive instrumentation system onboard is integrated between upper and lower helm stations. It includes a full set of engine instruments along with navigational aids including datamarine speed/depth/wind instruments, compasses, adios, 48nm radar, autopilot, depth sounder and chartplotter.

The flybridge helm is backed by a wet bar and a dining and seating area complete with barbecue.

Below decks there are three staterooms with accommodation for up to 10. The master stateroom has its own en suite, while the VIP cabin and guest cabin are serviced by a day head fitted with toilet and sink.

The airconditioned interior is finished in American maple with marble benches and Corian floors.

The fully-equipped galley is located to port, with a dining area located opposite, which leads to the saloon that has doors leading out to the aft deck.
