
The boat in question is also the one that Margetts takes customers and friends way offshore on extended fishing trips to demonstrate the capability of the package.
"I chose the new Yanmar 6BY diesel sterndrive," said Margetts.
"Over the years we have installed and used just about every brand of outboard on the market but wished to move into sterndrive power for our top of the range Hooker 8m series WRC model (bottom left).
"We had the option of diesel or petrol sterndrives, but stayed well and truly away from petrol due to safety with electrics and fumes plus we had concerns about reliability. So we selected the finest diesel sterndrive available," Margetts said.
Usually with this model boat customers have opted for an outboard in the 250hp category or even dual 150hp outboards.
The 260hp of the six-cylinder 6BY-260Z delivers 35kts at 4100rpm swinging a 21in pitch prop on the MerCruiser Bravo II leg, said Power Equipment, and in a fully loaded state, cruise speed is achieved at 3300rpm and 26kts, a fine effort for a boat with a dry weight of two tonnes.
With the 600lt fuel tank loaded, the Yanmar powered Hooker package has an impressive range of 1200nm, said Power Equipment adding, that it is easy to overlook that this boat is legally trailerable.
The BY Series, with DOHC, four valves per cylinder and common rail injection, is available in both a four-cylinder 2.0lt variant (150hp and 180hp) and a six-cylinder 3.0lt (220hp and 260hp) model.
