Honda reveals market opportunities

High horsepower outboards selling on the back of big RIBs
Honda will be exhibiting its distinctive, silver-coloured outboards from the lightweight BF2.3 right up to the technologically-advanced BF250 at Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show later this month. But the interesting trend is the inquiry for its high-horsepower models to power rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) for the growing motoryacht market.
RIBs that can accept 200hp-plus are not uncommon as tenders these days and Honda says its V6 range is perfectly suited to these boats. The BF250 is the flagship, using a 3.6L V6 EFI engine with the world’s first direct air-induction system in an outboard. It reduces intake air temperature, increases air volume to the engine, and ultimately delivers improved performance and fuel economy.
The BF250 also incorporates exclusive Honda technologies including BLAST, an advanced ignition-timing control system that significantly improves hole-shot; ECOmo, a sophisticated lean-burn fuel control system; and VTEC, which is variable valve timing technology to deliver grunt. The BF250 is backed by a five-year warranty.
