Honda refines V6 outboards

More power and lower fuel consumption

Honda's flagship range of V6 four-stroke EFI outboards has been reworked by the company's engineers to provide more torque, greater fuel efficiency and improved engine to electronics data communications.

Honda Australia marine manger Chris Schultz says the new outboard series -- BF175/200/225 -- achieved the world's highest standard in outboard performance. "Never satisfied with maintaining the status quo, Honda solicited honest opinions from BF175/200/225 customers all over the world as to how this flagship series could be even further improved," Schultz says.

He says Honda engineers have improved "holeshot performance" to rival that of higher rated horsepower engines and to enable boats to get on the plane faster.

Fuel consumption has been reduced by five per cent by adopting a O2 freedback system and a lean burn system that is activated when the engine is in mid range cruising revs.

A new gearcase dramatically improves the hydrodynamic profile of the engines and a new water intake screen provides better cooling. A newly designed anti-cavitation plate reduces engine splash and extra sacrificial anodes have been added to ensure increased corrosion resistance.
