TrailerBoat joined Honda Marine and the Nine Network's The Boat Show for a day on the water of Lake Eildon in Victoria to check out Honda's 150hp outboards.
"We do a lot of work with The Boat Show," Honda Australia marine manager Tim Davies said. "We find it's a good way to get exposure and the reason why we did it there is because Eildon is such a great waterway.
"When it's full, the lake is about five times the size of Sydney Harbour, and it's probably one of most popular boating destinations in Australia."
Ridge, who keeps a house boat and Ski Craft trailerboat at the lake, agrees.
"We get to Eildon every couple of months -- not as much as we'd like to. But winter in Eildon is beautiful," he said.
Davies said Honda's four-stroke 150hp outboard was developed about 18 months ago to help the company further tap into the waterskiing market. With this in mind, surrounded by mountainous, rugged terrain and pristine water, watersports were the order of the day.
"We were pulling three skiers, all with single skis on, out of a deep water start with ease using a 535 Carnival, among other boats, with the 150," Davies said.
"Historically, a four-stroke outboard and higher horse power would have been regarded as sluggish.
"Nowadays, with technology that Honda has released, such as V-Tech technology and the variable induction system, the 150 really gives you instant throttle response right through the rev range. At 4000rpm, the V-Tech cuts in and gives you a lot more power at higher revs -- perfect for waterskiing."
