Honda Marine Australia has teased an all-new outboard engine on social media channels that it hints will soon be released to the market.
Few details are revealed, although the size of the new-look engine cowl and the diameter of the propeller hint that the flagship Honda V6 engine range, which includes the BF200, BF225 and BF250 engines with digital shift and throttle controls, is the target.
Rumours have also hinted that Honda may be making a step up to 300hp via the V6 platform.
All three engines are powered using a 3.6-litre V6 launched as part of a makeover of Honda’s high-performance powerplants in 2019.
In the US at the time of the new V6’s launch, the 200hp to 250hp outboard engine range accounted for around 90 per cent of Honda’s sales.
The remake included claims of innovative design, a sleek and progressive “V Form” style, improved corrosion resistance, streamlined maintenance and more rigging options for ease of use. The engines also marked the arrival of Honda’s new electronic gauges.

Last year, Honda revamped the entry-level outboard engines in its high-performance line-up – the BF115, BF135 and BF150 – which included big changes to the engine cowl.
The engines also have been made compatible with Honda’s HondaLink Marine app, which allows skippers to monitor the engine’s performance directly on their smartphone.
