Holiday licence crackdown

Central Coast fishing Mecca to be the focus of fishing-licence blitz
Fishers are being warned to ensure they have a licence and are aware of the current bag and size limits at one of the most popular fishing spots in NSW, the Central Coast.
Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Supervising Fisheries Officer, Chris Clarke, said compliance staff will focus on popular areas such as The Entrance, Terrigal, Norah Head and Brisbane Waters.
“The Central Coast welcomes a large number of visitors over the holiday season, however we have found that some fishers still flaunt the rules by fishing without a licence and not abiding by the daily bag and size limits of fish,” Mr Clarke said.
“Additional fisheries officers from across the state will be brought in to boost patrols to ensure all holiday makers abide by recreational fishing rules, whilst taking good care of our precious beaches and waterways.
“Fishers must hold a current NSW recreational fishing licence, unless exempt, for any fishing activity including angling, prawning, shellfish gathering and spear fishing, and the licence must be carried on the person at all times.
“Anyone found without a licence faces a $200 on the spot fine. Additionally, a penalty of $75 can apply if you do not have the licence in your immediate possession.
“Fishers must follow the rules for bag and size limits and should only catch sufficient fish for their immediate needs and release all others using best practice catch and release techniques,” Mr Clarke said.
NSW recreational fishing licences cost $7 - 3 days, $14 - 1 month, $35 - 1 year and $85 - 3 years. Licences are available at more than 1000 outlets including bait and tackle shops, some Kmart stores and online at www.licence.nsw.gov.au.
