Reminder to register your interest -- closes tomorrow (Aug 31)Registrations of interest (ROI) to partner with the NSW Government in delivering a major statewide lifejacket supply and promotion program close tomorrow.
Office of Boating Safety and Maritime Affairs General Manager Howard Glenn said the aim was to develop a breakthrough initiative in the supply and promotion of lifejackets.
"There is indisputable proof that lifejackets can save lives for those people who are unlucky enough to end up in the water when boating," Mr Glenn said.
"New lifejacket legislation requiring more people to wear lifejackets more often in NSW was introduced at the end of 2010.
"The effort to educate the boating public about lifejacket requirements continues.
"This ROI is about involving the maritime community in assisting government in promoting the wearing of lifejackets.
"Along with improving the rate of wearing lifejackets, the aim of the lifejacket safety partnership program is to significantly improve the ease and convenience of keeping inflatable lifejackets serviced appropriately and ready for use."
Mr Glenn said more than 93 per cent of the 167 people who died in boating accidents in the past 10 years were not wearing a lifejacket.
An expressions of interest process will follow the ROI.
