Yachtsmen who enjoy shorthanded twilight racing and an occasional serious bash in an ocean race have two new yachts to consider from Sydney Yachts -- the GTS37 and the GTS43.
Both yachts were designed with the idea of winning under the IRC measurement system and they offer exhilarating performance in an easy to sail package. While traditionally seaworthy and technically advanced, the GTS range was designed with the performance orientated sailor in mind.
They both have a fully-fitted interior, engineered to ISO standards and offer a comfortable, practical interior. Both yachts have three double cabins, an enclosed head, a full galley and a navigation area. There is even enough space to pack aboard all that is needed for a bit of family cruising.
Both yachts feature the large open cockpits that are a signature of Sydney Yachts. The cockpits allow simple and efficient crew manoeuvres and more than enough room for entertaining after a race.
The deck layouts are also designed with both racing and cruising in mind. Owners and crew will find themselves enjoying the excellent ergonomics whether beating upwind or while enjoying a drink or two at anchor.
A modern double-spreader rig with non-overlapping headsails ensure that you don't need a team of gorillas aboard to handle either yacht. When racing, less crew is needed than on similar sized yachts and cruising is not beyond the capabilities of a family group.
GTS yachts are able to match potentially faster and bigger cruiser/racers around the race course and plane away from them as the wind picks up.
Darren Williams, MD of Sydney Yachts, contacted Ker Design for the new GTS race and after crunching the numbers of a couple of potential shapes, the GTS emerged.
