According to Lagoon, the complete installation is composed of two electric motors connected to propellers by straight shaft transmissions, one generator, and two sets of six batteries. When the batteries are completely charged, they provide enough juice to power both motors.
When the batteries are 80 per cent charged, the generator will automatically start, charge the batteries, and provide electricity for the motors. When the boat is under sail, the propellers turn freely and charge the batteries.
Lagoon says this system will lead to less fuel consumption, carbon dioxide emissions and noise.
The generator also provides electricity for such appliances as air conditioners and washing machines.
