Grand Banks announces new 55

First Raised Pilothouse 55 Aleutian will come to Aus

Grand Banks Yachts has unveiled plans for a new Aleutian Series raised-pilothouse yacht, the 55 Aleutian RP.

And the first boat will be delivered to Australia in the second half of this year.

The 55RP is a development of the successful Grand Banks 53 Aleutian RP which made her debut in 2010.

The two extra feet have been used to create more space in the cockpit and flybridge, added length in the utility room, and provided for a new dedicated transom locker that will accommodate up to four large fenders.

The company has also taken the opportunity to include subtle improvements in hull design.

Grand Banks says that a slightly narrower transom with maximum beam width further forward has improved performance in a following sea by reducing aft-end buoyancy. The forward chines have been lifted to eliminate chine slap at anchor and have been slightly rolled to deflect spray more easily.

New design rudders improve steering accuracy.

Other features will include a second transom door to the cockpit, integrated wing engine control stations, comfortable aft staircase to the flybridge, a large swim platform that can be equipped with a Sealift tender lift system, and more galley storage and seating.

Ardeo Design, Inc has been commissioned to develop a progressive new interior that incorporates more materials and textures to create a lighter and warmer ambiance.

The standard power offering aboard the 55RP will be twin Cummins QSM11 diesel engines, rated at 715hp with a projected cruise speed of 20 knots and a max speed of 24 knots.

Optional engine offerings will include both Volvo and MAN diesels.

The first 55RP is scheduled for completion at the end of June and will then be shipped to Australia, while the second hull will be heading to its home in Florida at the end of July and will be shown at the 2014 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
