UK-based Comar Systems has appointed Oceantalk Australia as the exclusive regional distributor of its Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) range of products

AIS transponders are now carried by all international vessels over 300 tonnes. The units transmit and receive vessel information including position, speed, course, call sign and other important data via a VHF signal.

Comar produces a signal-only receiver, and one that both transmits and receives AIS information.

The Comar SLR 200 AIS receiver, costing less than $1000, decodes and displays any AIS data received on a compatible chartplotter or software program.

The Comar CSB200 transponder gives recreational boats the ability to transmit their own AIS signal to recognise and be recognised by other AIS equipped vessels. It costs about $2500.
