When the inaugural NSW Fishing Day was run by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) on December 2015, the event was declared a successful celebration of our favourite pastime, a fun and healthy outdoor activity for the entire family, attracting around one million anglers in the state and some five million nationally.
As many kids and adults were introduced to their first ever fishing experience, on this open day NSW DPI has said this year will see even more fun-filled fishing activities held in 39 locations and counting across the State.
The additional big news is that NSW Fishing Day will now be staged concurrently with the inaugural national Gone Fishing Day on October 16 to create an even bigger rec fishing celebration.
Try-fishing workshops, casting competitions, goodie bags with loads of free giveaways, activity marquees, fishing tips classes, touch tanks, and a kids' activity corner are just some of the exciting fishing activities on offer. Snappy, the crab mascot, will also be making an appearance and giving out lots of cool prizes.
DPI is also supporting community fishing events and activities at a number of fishing club days throughout NSW on October 16. Stay tuned for more details and locations.
As October 16 marks the first ever National Gone Fishing Day, with other events organised around the country by the Australian Fishing Trade Association, NSW DPI has joined forces to create an even bigger state event this year.
