GOLD COAST MARINE EXPO: TAFE training centre open

Training hub for more than 100 apprentices opens during the Gold Coast Marine Expo's 'working boat show'
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Marine Training Centre will be open to the public for tours during the 2014 Gold Coast International Marine Expo from October 17 to 19.
Located at the Riviera Australia headquarters in Coomera, the TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Marine Training Centre is a training hub for more than 100 apprentices studying Marine Mechanical Technology and Marine Craft Construction, as well as school-based students studying the Certificate I in Boating.
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast General Manager Jenny Dodd said the organisation was proud to be playing such a pivotal role in the future of Australia’s marine industry.
"A skilled and educated workforce is essential to not only the industry’s growth and development but also the region’s," Dodd said.
"The TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Marine Training Centre is an example of how the organisation works closely with industry to provide an interesting learning environment for apprentices equipped with the latest equipment and cutting-edge training.
"Where else in the world can apprentices combine boat-building theory and training with practical on-the-job experience at one location, and within the largest boat-building facility in the country?"
The training centre, which officially opened in March this year, is located within Riviera’s 14-hectare manufacturing headquarters and is a vote of confidence in the future of the Gold Coast Marine Precinct and the Australian boating industry in general.
Apprentices learn valuable practical and life skills by being completely immersed in the marine industry, where they can see new world-class boats under construction as well as witness the completed boats being launched.
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast will have an interactive display with information on training packages at the Expo and tours of the training centre will be conducted twice daily at 10.45am and 1.45pm.
The Gold Coast International Marine Expo from October 17-19 is a massive showcase of all things aquatic — from superyachts to kayaks, jet skis to fishing equipment … and everything in between.
There will be live educational demonstrations, factory tours and fun attractions every 15 minutes throughout its three kilometre circuit at the Gold Coast Marine Precinct at Coomera.
Event & Marketing Manager Emma Milne said the Expo was shaping up as the biggest and best yet, with a number of new products being released for the first time in Queensland, in Australia and, in several cases, in the world.
“Our growing list of new product releases certainly confirms the Expo as a major event on the marine industry calendar,” she said.
The not-for-profit Expo will again offer free on-site parking. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for seniors, and children under the age of 15 years are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
See www.gcmarineexpo.com.au to pre-purchase tickets for any or all of the three days.
