Some of the world’s leading marine engine and generator brands have been confirmed for the 2015 Gold Coast International Marine Expo.
The marine marques will have a corporate presence and high-horsepower engine displays at the four-day Expo (May 21-24) on the Gold Coast.
Among the major brands to be represented are Cummins, Caterpillar, MTU, Kohler, Volvo Penta and Westerbeke.
Cummins
Cummins will showcase its new 6.7-litre QSB engine for pleasure boats which has a top rating of 550hp and is billed as having the best power density in its class.
Cumins says the new engine is the result of accelerated product development in the Cummins recreational marine business and offers great performance along with low noise and vibration, while still meeting the US EPA Tier 3 emissions standards.
A new fuel calibration strategy also allows for less wasted fuel, creating less particulate matter and resulting in cleaner exhaust.
Cat C8.7
Cat will showcase the new C8.7 supercharged 650hp diesel engine, which is designed for pleasure craft, commercial applications and large sailboats.
The new Cat 8.7 marine propulsion engine is also designed to be integrated with the soon-to-be released new ‘push, twist and go’ Cat Three60 Pod 650, the Three60 Precision Control, as well as traditional shaftline installations … and will be on display at the Energy Power Systems Australia exhibit where experts will be on hand to explain its benefits.
MTU and Kohler
Also at Expo, the latest in innovation from MTU and Kohler will be on display in conjunction with the new Whitehaven Coupe 6000, which makes her world premiere at Expo.
The Coupe 6000 features twin MTU Series 60 engines that deliver 820hp or 615kW at 2300rpm, making them the ideal powerplant for long- or short-range cruising performance.
On-board electrical power is delivered to the Coupe 6000 from a Kohler 25EFOZD generator and this state-of-the-art technology will also be showcased by Penske Power Systems, which has just rebranded from MTU Detroit Diesel Australia and also distributes brands such as Rolls-Royce Power Systems, Daimler, Detroit and Allison Transmission.
Volvo Penta
This year also marks a decade since Volvo Penta introduced its revolutionary IPS pod propulsion technology that enabled changes in boat design and manoeuvrability – and that achievement will be celebrated at Expo.
Organisers say that Volvo Penta will have all its latest marine propulsion technology on show as well, including a range of diesel engines and pod drives which have enabled the introduction of features like joystick steering, sport-fish and clear-wash modes and the Glass Cockpit system developed in conjunction with Garmin.
The Volvo Penta display will include the new IPS-1200 which delivers 900 horsepower and is creating interest among owners of larger Rivieras and other motoryachts around the world.
