From the shores of Manly Harbour and Bribie Island to the banks of the Tingalpa and Cabbage Tree Creeks, the combined skills and creativity of a handful of boating professionals has created the beginnings of what is to be a fleet of classic sailing yachts, known as Amity Boats.
The concept and driving force behind Amity Boats is local Manly sailor and businessman Euan MacDonald whose original ideas and drawings were translated and designed by internationally-awarded yacht designer and marine surveyor Barry Colson, a Bribie Island local.
The classic-style sailing boats, reminiscent of the Victorian couta boats, are built locally by shipwright Ben Pluck whilst the spars and timber fit-outs are hand crafted by Peter Kerr and his team at Deagon Slipways.
The team of marine professionals has, for the past two years, combined to bring to fruition what is arguably the prettiest yacht on the bay, an open-cockpit 23-foot classic style, trailerable yacht. She’s built strong and capable of travelling far and wide in safety and comfort and with its huge cockpit can sail with six adults or convert to overnight sailing/camper for four.
Amity boats and its cute daysailor will feature at the 2014 Gold Coast International Marine Expo.
