Global premier of Volvo Penta D2-60 engine for yachts and cruisers

Volvo Penta has staged its global premier of the new D2-60 engine at Düsseldorf boat show

Committing to the marine industry at every level, Volvo Penta’s new compact D2-60 engine is part of its expanded 13-75 hp range that's compliant with European Union Recreational Craft Directive Stage 2 (RCD II) emissions regulations, as are all engines within the company’s marine leisure range. The new engine also meets EPA Tier 3 emissions standards in the USA, meaning it's pretty clean running.

The new four-cylinder D2-60 engine, which enjoyed its international premiere at boot Düsseldorf (the Düsseldorf boat show) in Germany from January 21-29, is available for both Saildrive (S Drive) and shaft installations and is suitable for sail yachts and other displacement boats which require compact diesel engines complemented by excellent performance.

The engine is charge air-cooled, with an output of 60hp at 3000rpm, low in weight and is said to provide excellent fuel consumption, with low noise and vibration.

In Europe, RCD II regulations came into force in January and are applicable to all engine-powered leisure watercraft of 2.5m to 24m (except racing boats, hydrofoils and hovercraft) and relate to both exhaust and noise emissions.

"The new D2-60 is an important part of our extended range of compact diesel engines and makes us highly competitive in the market for small craft," said Jan Wiese, sales manager for Volvo Penta in Germany.

"All of our products... fulfil our philosophy of ‘easy boating’ and they are part of our commitment to providing the smart way to make boating easy, safe and fun," adds Wiese.

The D2-60 will presumably be built at the Vara Plant in Sweden. More at Volvo Penta's website.
