Yamaha said that in this role, Gibson, who is Brisbane based, operates as a marine technical advisor to boat manufacturers.
"After working my way through the marine industry since the early 1990's, it is most gratifying to have been appointed to a plum job with the market leader in the outboard engine industry," said Gibson on his appointment.
"I am very much looking forward to working alongside boat manufacturers across Australia to assist with rigging, testing and matching the Yamaha outboard engine to hull for optimum performance," he said.
Gibson started his working life in the marine industry as an outboard mechanic with a Brisbane marine dealer. With a sound grounding in the workshop, he was appointed to the position of service manager at a prominent Brisbane dealership and thereafter fulfilled a technical sales roll in Queensland. In his new role at Yamaha, Gibson's job function is both broad and demanding.
"Our expertise lies in correctly matching the right Yamaha engine to the hull. We undertake extensive water testing to record fuel, performance and prop matching data," Gibson said.
Gibson joins the team at an exciting stage of the company's new product development program, said Yamaha. With new engines due for launch in the 2007 boat show season, Gibson and other members of the Yamaha BBR team will be kept busy throughout the year.
"The arrival of the new Yamaha F350 V8 four-stroke outboard engine is eagerly anticipated. The opportunity to work with boat builders and this world first release will be very rewarding," said Gibson.
"Our industry is currently undergoing significant change and we have all the resources at hand at Yamaha to allow us to do our job very well indeed," he said.
The position taken up by Gibson was previously held by industry and Yamaha stalwart Barry Senden who has retired.
