Glebe Island for Sydney boat shows
Interim venue confirmed during Darling Harbour's makeoverThe Boating Industry Association of NSW (BIA) has confirmed that the undercover exhibits for the 2014, 2015 & 2016 Sydney International Boat Show will be located at Glebe Island.
The interim venue will be provided by internationally-known structure provider GL Events and operated by AEG Ogden, who currently manage venues worldwide and were the winning tenderer for the new Darling Harbour venue that will open in 2017.
The NSW Government announced last year that Darling Harbour would be redeveloped to include a revitalised and modernised exhibition centre. The existing excellent facility will be made even better ensuring that Sydney and the exhibition facilities in Darling Harbour remain up there with the best in the world.
The Sydney boat show will return fully to Darling Harbour to coincide with the BIA’s planned celebrations for the show’s 50th event.
Roy Privett, General Manager of the BIA, said: “We are excited that Sydney Exhibition Centre at Glebe Island will become our home for our undercover exhibits whilst the Darling Harbour facility is being redeveloped.
“The purpose built interim facilities will provide the show with a great venue to continue showcasing the [marine industry’s] undercover displays. Our in-water display of vessels will remain in Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour,” he adds.
Access between Glebe Island and Cockle Bay will be easy with complimentary transport between the two locations by both road and water. It will be lots of fun, visitors will enjoy a new boating festival atmosphere and we assure you that the entire family will enjoy the experience, says the BIA.
The BIA, which says the purpose-built interim facility is proving to be as exciting as the new venue being built for Darling Harbour, is continuing to work with Infrastructure NSW on the makeup of the interim facility.
This will allow the BIA to ensure that the Sydney International Boat Show will continue without interruption, something not new to the BIA with the show housed in interim facilities in the mid-80’s at Pyrmont for three years in preparation for the current Darling Harbour site.
The BIA will make further announcements at the Sydney International Boat Show Friday morning industry breakfast and intends to keep the industry informed as further information comes to hand.
The future will also include a comprehensive consumer media campaign to ensure show visitors are comfortable and understand the location of the new site.
