Keen angler Nick Taylor recently caught this 85cm brown trout in Eildon Pondage, the 150 hectare impoundment just 160km northeast of Melbourne CBD.
The huge fish weighed 5.54kg or 12lb. It is thought the brown trout was ex-brood stock, as these big breeders have been released into the waterway before.
The hook-jawed male brown trout, a real buck in trout-fishing terms, pounced a large lure cast from the shore.
Eildon Pondage is famous for producing trout to better than 3kg, but this beauty goes the extra distance.
Fisheries Victoria stocks Eildon Pondage with rainbow trout and brown trout throughout the year to improve freshwater fishing opportunities.
