Geelong Boating Centre sticks with Yamaha

Geelong Boating Centre (GBC) has strengthened their commitment to Yamaha outboards by relinquishing their newly formed ties with Honda to become a sole Yamaha dealer again

By choosing to sell Yamaha exclusively again, the GBC team says it can offer their customers one leading brand of outboard with three different engine technology platforms.

Yamaha joined forces with GBC in 1983 and bringing Honda into the equation at the beginning of 2008 had appeal for GBC's co-director, Cameron MacDonald, but the local market quickly demonstrated the power of brand loyalty.

"We soon found out that our local boating market has a strong affiliation with the Yamaha brand," said MacDonald.

"Having two four-stroke outboard brands was also very confusing for our customers. We found that when a customer was choosing a four-stroke for their boat, the level of features on offer and value for money with Yamaha was difficult to beat," he said.

Yamaha offers 80 models in its outboard range and three engine technologies in two-stroke, four-stroke and the direct injection VMAX two-stroke outboards.

"It makes good business sense for us to streamline our range and offer one strong and complete outboard brand," said MacDonald.

"It's so easy to promote, sell and service the Yamaha brand with their full range of products from genuine parts to insurance and finance programs," he said.

The demand for four-stroke technology around Geelong's waterways continues to grow with 50 per cent of GBC's outboards sold over the last 12 months being four-strokes.

"When set up correctly, we find that our Yamaha four-strokes will out-compete comparable two-stroke outboards," said Cameron.

"We pride ourselves in water testing each and every boat we sell to ensure they leave our showroom ready to perform at their best. Bolting a Yamaha four-stroke on the back means we know our customers are getting the best outboard from the market leader," he said.

Yamaha said its four-stroke outboards are supported with a full four-year manufacturer's warranty and all two-stroke outboards backed by a three-year warranty - standard conditions apply.
