Marine electronics specialist Lowrance has unveiled new-generation ActiveTarget Live Sonar fishfinding software that it claims can show fish with “extraordinary clarity and breath-taking detail”.
It has posted a video of its ActiveTarget Live Sonar in action, showing a lure descending to a fish sitting off the bottom, which then strikes the lure.
“Watch high-resolution images of fish movements – tracking them as they swim in and around cover with ActiveTarget Live Sonar,” Lowrance said in a statement announcing the new feature.
“When you see how fish are located near structure and watch them respond to your lure, you will know if your current technique is working, or if it’s time to make an adjustment – information that is harder to get from traditional sonar or structure imaging.”
ActiveTarget is compatible with Lowrance HDS LIVE, HDS Carbon and Elite FS fishfinder/chartplotters, and sold as a plug-in module with its own special transducer.
The module allows the fishfinder to show a forward view ahead of the boat, a view down from the boat, or an ultra-wide overview of what is ahead of the boat.
ActiveTarget will be priced from $2299 as a module and transducer when it arrives in Australia. The module-only price is $749, while the transducer will be priced at $1499.
The system includes trolling motor mounts, including shaft mounts, for forward, down and scout views.
No other details, including whether the ActiveTarget system works in both salt and freshwater, were revealed. The system is only shown with Lowrance's Ghost trolling motor, which is only for freshwater use.
