Gold Coast-based heavy duty towing system company Gen-y Australia has announced the arrival of a new 3500kg-rated torsion hitch designed to take the rattle out of trailers towed behind trade utes.
Until now, Gen-y Australia has only imported larger torsion hitches rated between 4500kg and 7000kg, made primarily for the right-hand-drive-converted US light trucks more suited to towing larger trailers on Australian roads.
According to Gen-y Australia, the rubber-bushed torsion hitch requires a minimum tongue weight of 90kg, and a maximum of 300kg.
It said all the required testing to ensure the US-made 3500kg hitch had met Australian Standards and Australian Design Rules had been carried out and passed by Brisbane-based Truck Engineering Australia.

The new hitch weighs in at 12kg, with Gen-y saying it will eliminate up to 90 percent of the shock transmitted between the vehicle and its trailer.
The 3500kg hitch features a height-adjustable plate and can accept a range of common towballs to suit various hitches.
The hitch is yet to have a price attached to it, but Gen-y Australia says it is working at bringing it in at less than $1000.
The new 3500kg rating means the Gen-y hitch is now available for a wider range of vehicles, including two of Australia’s best-selling models, the Toyota HiLux and the Ford Ranger.
