Marine electronics specialist Garmin has expanded its HD3 radar range with the more premium xHD3 units that provide even higher-definition imaging and clarity on the water.
Available in 18- or 24-inch sweeps and optimised for smaller boats, the new 4kW radar units introduce scan averaging for the first time in a Garmin unit, helping to filter sea clutter and interference and deliver a clearer display.
The new dome radars with a 77km range will be available in an 18.0-inch or 24.0-inch version.
Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice-president of global consumer sales, said the electronics group was excited to offer its xHD3 dome radar series with new enhancements.
“Garmin's new magnetron radars deliver a high-definition picture of weather, obstacle and traffic detection, giving mariners superior clarity and detail for added peace of mind every time they leave the dock," he said.
Features included in the new radar include:
Of interest to offshore fishing enthusiasts, Garmin’s xHD3 series includes an enhanced preset automatic bird gain to identify flocks of birds over the water's surface, often an indication of where the fish might be.
“With its low-noise and reliable operation, fishing enthusiasts can troll the water's surface with less disturbance of their targets,” Garmin said.
US pricing for the new Garmin xHD3 units will cost $US2000 ($A3100) for the 18.0-inch version and $US2800 for the 24.0-inch model.
