Garmin has updated its LiveScope real-time sonar system so that it now works in more extreme offshore conditions up to 150 metres deep.
Garmin claims the new ability to see even deeper than rival systems means it can reach up to 200 percent further into the water in front of and behind the boat than its leading competitor system.
The Garmin LiveScope XR’s 150-metre depth range is for freshwater systems. In saltwater, the depth falls back to just over 100 metres — still plenty of depth to see around and below the boat.
“With seven colour palettes to choose from, anglers can see fish and structure in vivid contrast and clarity,” Garmin said.

“Like all LiveScope transducers, LiveScope XR is equipped with additional sensors that allow it to constantly adjust the sonar beams to compensate for boat motion, so even in rough conditions, anglers will still see a steady sonar image, even at an extended range.”
Key to the new technology is an adjustable transducer mount that allows it to turn forward to look out the front of the boat, point down to see directly beneath the boat, or turn sideways to scout features such as shorelines.
The new Garmin LiveScope XR comes with a sonar module and a LiveScope XR LVS62 transducer as well as a trolling motor mounting kit, stern mounting bracket and a Garmin network connection cable.
Boat owners who already have the sonar module can buy the LiveScope XR LVS62 transducer separately.
Garmin says the LiveScope XR is compatible with a range of Garmin GPSMAP and ECHOMAP chartplotters and combination units.
