Garmin has launched the Force Kraken bow thruster featuring what it says is the “most powerful trolling motor the recreational fishing market has ever seen”.
The new motor, optimised for centre consoles, will provide up to 100lb of thrust when powered using a 36-volt system, or 80lb when connected to a 24-volt system.
The Garmin Force Kraken will also seamlessly integrate with Garmin’s chartplotters to precisely hold a boat on a set location and heading, and fishfinders – including a forward-facing sonar option routed for the first time, with the transducer cable routed via the interior of the motor shaft.
The unit was also designed to add more mounting options for users – something they had asked for.

“[Garmin Force Kraken] can move anglers from one mangrove or reef to the next more quickly, throttle back with ease when they need to fish slow and stand up better to winds and currents in rough open-water conditions,” Garmin said.
“Even with all that power, Kraken is extremely efficient so anglers can count on it to fish all day. It's also whisper quiet above and below the water and less likely to spook the fish.”
According to Garmin, the 20-step trolling motor is smart enough to decelerate when it is within a metre of the user-selected location. In rough conditions, Kraken can apply more aggressive motor speed for improved performance on larger boats.
The unit can also come with a wireless remote control, or anyone wearing the latest-generation Garmin Fenix 7 smartwatch can control steering, anchor lock and more from their wrist.

Garmin says the Force Kraken trolling motor’s propeller is designed with a thinner leading edge that reduces drag, and a trailing edge that minimises cavitation.
The Garmin Force Kraken is available in three lengths – 1.6 metres, 1.9 metres and 2.3 metres – and is available in either black or white.
Pricing starts from $6599 for a white motor with a 1.6-metre shaft.
The Garmin Force Kraken is comparable with a number of Garmin EchoMAP and GPSMAP chartplotters and fishfinders.
