The Queensland Government has released an all-new version of its recreational fishing guide that makes it much easier for anglers to manage where and when they fish, and what they catch.
Developed by the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the new Qld Fishing 2.0 app adds much more versatility compared with the rather flat Queensland Recreational Fishing Guide it supersedes.
It can be used in a wider range of areas, too, with cached information allowing it to be used in remote locations and with limited mobile signal reception, the department says.

Anyone using the Qld Fishing 2.0 app will also help future fishers, with the photos they take and upload to the service tapping into artificial intelligence to help other fishers identify the species of fish they’ve caught.
Once identified, the app will then be able to give an estimate of the age of the fish based on its length.
As well, the Qld Fishing 2.0 app will help anglers to identify the fishing rules that apply in their current location via a “Can I fish here?” inquiry button.

Anglers can perform other functions such as buy a permit to fish in any one of the state’s 63 stocked dams, and even contact Fisheries Queensland to make an inquiry or lodge a complaint.
The Qld Fishing 2.0 app is available via Apple’s App Store or via Google Play on any Android device.
