Gear: Ecoflow 12V Wave 2 air-con and Glacier fridge
New 12-volt portable air-conditioner and a fridge that doubles as an ice-maker now available in AustraliaSmaller boats running 12-volt systems can now have access to the same tools to keep everyone onboard cool as larger motor yachts with two new products released by portable power solutions group EcoFlow.
The first is the EcoFlow Wave 2 portable air-conditioner featuring a 5100BTU cooling capacity and a 6100BTU heating capacity, enough to control the climate in a room of less than 10 square metres in size.
The second is the EcoFlow Glacier 3-in-1 portable fridge, freezer and icemaker. EcoFlow claims the icemaker is powerful enough to make 18 ice cubes in as little as 18 minutes.
EcoFlow said the Wave 2 portable air conditioner was a quick and relatively quiet climate-control solution when sheltering in compact, confined spaces and away from mains power.
"EcoFlow WAVE 2 is not only the first portable air conditioner to offer both heating and cooling functions, but it also provides the fastest temperature regulation of any product of its kind," the company says.
The WAVE 2 is rated to heat or cool a 10-square-metre room by 10 degrees in five minutes.
It weighs 14.5kg and runs for up to eight hours using an optional 1159Wh/100Ah battery. EcoFlow says the Flow 2 produces 44dB of noise in Sleeping Mode, with Fast and Eco Modes also available.
The unit recharges using an AC or 12-volt car outlet, via a larger portable power station from the EcoFlow range, or using up to 400W of solar input.
The EcoFlow Glacier is aimed at boating enthusiasts and can cool from 30 degrees Celsius to zero in 15 minutes. It uses a 298Wh/25Ah plug-in battery that provides up to 40 hours of refrigeration or 19 hours of below-freezing temperatures on a single charge.
The unit comes with two storage compartments that can be set up as either a fridge or freezer, with different modes available including 'Max' and 'Eco'.
The Glacier weighs 23kg and can be charged by AC, DC, solar panels or power stations. The portable fridge comes with a detachable handle and wheels so it can be pulled around like a suitcase.
The plug-in battery can also charge small devices such as smartphones.
The EcoFlow WAVE 2 retails for $1999 and the GLACIER is priced at $1499. The EcoFlow WAVE 2 100Ah battery costs $1199. They are available from major online and walk-in retailers, as well as via EcoFlow.
EcoFlow also builds complete marine systems that include all the wiring to add its products to a boat.
