Solar power is an easy win for boat owners – assuming you have the space to carry and use a bulky panel to soak up the sun’s energy.
When space is limited, it makes sense to instead use a solar blanket.
Swedish leisure electronics brand Dometic has released a 150-watt portable solar blanket that can roll out to capture the sun, and fold up to stow away.

The maker says the Dometic PSB150 portable solar blanket is “designed to bring a reliable supply of power to people living mobile”.
The blanket comes with an anti-reflective and scratch-resistant surface, and includes several built-in safety systems that protect the unit from reverse polarity, overheating, and keep the energy supply down, or up, to a manageable voltage.
The copper-backed Dometic PSB150 is also splash-resistant to protect against short circuits, and dust-resistant. It tips the scales at about a third of the weight of a conventional glass-pane solar panel.

The unit can charge lithium iron phosphate, absorbed glass mat, gel, wet, calcium and lithium titanate batteries, and includes an LCD screen showing voltage, charging current, charging capacity, battery type and fault codes.
The unit comes with a 5.0-metre cable equipped with Anderson plugs, and a 1.5m cable with alligator clips.
The Dometic PSB150 is priced from $1199.
