Garmin has updated its ECHOMAP UHD2 chartplotter and fishfinder range, introducing a touchscreen interface and a range of new features including pre-loaded maps and high-definition sonar.
The new touchscreen function, which allows users to zoom in on maps using their fingers and flip across fishfinding screens, includes a number of shortcut keys to create a hybrid half-step to removing buttons completely.
The updated units now include wireless networking for data sharing and support for Garmin's LiveScope live-scanning sonar.

The ECHOMAP UHD2 chartplotter and fishfinder range will come in 6.0-inch, 7.0-inch or 9.0-inch bright, sunlight-readable touchscreen displays with “keyed assist”, meaning you still have buttons to navigate the unit.
The size range makes the new chartplotter and fishfinder range ideal to mount on craft ranging from kayaks to trailerable fishing boats.

“The ECHOMAP UHD2 series has the power and functionality to meet the demands of today’s angler,” Garmin global consumer sales vice-president Dan Bartel said.
“They’ll know the water better than a local thanks to our best-in-class sonar and mapping which come preloaded in the new units, and revel in the lightning-fast map redraw speed and convenience of the ECHOMAP UHD2’s all-in-one design.”
The new ECHOMAP UHD2 multifunction screens are available bundled with an ultra-high-definition GT54UHD or GT56UHD transducer that Garmin says will provide “brilliant ClearVu and SideVu scanning sonar images and amazingly clear CHIRP traditional sonar”.
The units are also compatible with Garmin’s LiveScope system which allows anglers to see the fish up to 60 metres below the boat as they swim around, and even the lure as they cast it at a fish.
The screens use 16 colours, making it easier to identify fish.
The wireless function allows users to share data between ECHOMAP UHD2 units – including your secret trove of fishing hotspots – and makes adding a second unit much simpler.
Garmin says the ECHOMAP UHD2 also features its latest user interface and graphics that provide “a more modernised look with intuitive handling and control”.
“For added convenience, the newly redesigned quick-release brackets make it simple to remove the unit from the boat at the end of the day,” it said.
“The new 9.0-inch ECHOMAP UHD2 also adds a high-resolution display with improved detail, clarity and viewing angle compared to previous models.”
The new Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 units are priced from $1599.
