The update will let Garmin chartplotter users control the Power-Pole using their multifunction touchscreen – the same interface they use to control a bow-mounted trolling motor.
If that trolling motor happens to be Garmin’s recently released Force Kraken, the motor and the shallow water anchor will be able to work together to decide which will work best in whatever situation.
This includes:
A smart anchor feature that enables the chartplotter to detect current water depth and decide whether to use the Force trolling motor's anchor lock capability – or automatically deploy the Power-Pole anchors into shallow water – to help hold the boat's position over fishing hotspots.
When using the trolling motor to jog, the Power-Pole anchors will automatically stow, and the trolling motor will jog to a new position. Smart anchor selection will occur at the new anchor position, and the Power-Pole anchors will either redeploy to hold the angler's position or the Force anchor lock feature will engage.
If winds, waves or strong currents cause the Power-Pole anchors to drag, the paired chartplotter can detect the movement and stow the Power-Pole anchors, allowing the trolling motor to maneuver the boat back to the originally selected anchoring position, where the Power-Pole anchors will automatically redeploy.
When using the Force trolling motor's auto-routing capability to follow select pathways, the system engages the smart anchor mode when the angler has reached the end of their route. The Power-Pole anchors will automatically deploy if the water is shallow enough for anchoring, or in deeper water, the Force Kraken anchor lock capability will engage.
Auto Stow – Power-Pole anchors will automatically stow when the Force trolling motor is stowed.
As well as the Garmin chartplotter, users will also need to fit the boat with Power-Pole’s C-Monster Gateway that connects the shallow water anchors to the boat’s NMEA 2000 network.
Garmin said the new features would be made available to existing customers via the Q3 2023 marine software update, available as a free download from July 7, or through the ActiveCaptain mobile app under the "My Marine Device" tab.
